This month’s open day features our annual bird survey, family drumming in the woods and a special film screening. All welcome!

9.45-1 Seasonal Blitz morning: our weekend volunteering opportunity, join us at 9.45 for a 10am-1pm session. We advise sturdy shoes and you are welcome to stay for the Hawkwood monthly Open Day afterwards. This month’s focus is on rhubarb care.

All afternoon (12 – 3) Delicious seasonal lunch, cakes, coffee and teas available. And our farm stall has Hawkwood produce, jams, pickles, vinegars and herbal teas for sale.

All afternoon Site tour with a difference this month – come and use our new self-guided tour app and give us feedback! We have some tablets available to borrow if you don’t have a suitable phone.

1.30 Annual Bird Survey – we are participating in the RSPB’s Local Big Garden Birdwatch, one of the biggest species surveys in the world. Suitable for all from expert to first-timer – all welcome. Bring binoculars if you have them.

2.30 In Our Hands film screening. This beautifully shot film from the Landworkers’ Alliance profiles the emergence of a new generation of farmers who are outgrowing the industrial food system with a vision for post-Brexit food production that redefines our relationship with food. Join us for the film and discussion about how we can all contribute to this food future.

12-3 PlayfulLea Forest School – a free drop-in session offering outdoor play and learning for children and families. This month come and drum up some fun in the woods! Join Simmy from the Positive Bean Company and the PlayfulLea Forest School team for a rhythmical jamming session exploring sound-making using natural instruments. Drum beat sessions at 1-1.30pm and 2-2.30pm. Please email hello[at]playfullea.org.uk with the name and age of your children if you plan to attend. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
