A workers' cooperative growing food on London's edge in the Lea Valley

January Open Day

Sunday 29 January – Birds and seeds
Our first Open Day of 2023 celebrates the importance of birds in this market garden, and encourages you to get ready for growing this Spring. We are participating again in the RSPB’s Local Big Garden Birdwatch. We will have enthusiast guides leading a site-specific walk with bird identification and count. This activity is suitable for all – from expert to first-timer – all welcome! There will be some binoculars to borrow – or bring your own if you have them.

We’ll also have a seed saving workshop, a seed swap, and our own-recipe seed compost for sale, as you begin to think about the coming growing season.

As well as the usual open day farm stall and site tour, we’re excited that our coffee stall for the day will be provided by Haven Coffee, an organisation run by and supporting refugees through arts, awareness raising, and barista training. They’ll be serving up coffee with a conscience whilst our chefs Chris and Ollie are promising a delicious seasonal lunch with baked potatoes and a heap of fillings.

And if you’d like to come to the site by bike you can join our Bicycle Train convoy leaving from Lloyd Park in Walthamstow!
