A workers' cooperative growing food on London's edge in the Lea Valley

May Open Day

Sunday 28 May is the monthly open day and we’re sharing seasonal roots and leaves. Our plant sale will continue, we still have a more limited supply of free compost to give away, there’s a free introduction to growing the 107 different varieties of salad leaves that we produce (with plugs for sale). Fresh from the soil food will be cooked by Ximena who also cooks and trains with Made in Hackney and Hackney Grower’s Kitchen.  Ximena is preparing seasonal roots and leaves brought together in asian street food style – including creativity and chutneys! Cakes will be prepared by the Hornbeam cafe and a Hawkwood beverage team will steam up lattes and our own herbal tea blends!  Childrens’ portions will be available to support families coming to experience the PlayfulLea Forest School activity in the afternoon – full timings are below. Come share the flavours, smells and colours of early summer as the greens of the Forest truly deepen around the site and the tomatoes are winding their way up the glasshouse supports.
