Organiclea took over the lease of the 12 acre Hawkwood site in January 2010. With a Big Lottery Food Fund grant and committed funds from local PCT we have been developing a core volunteering programme at this London-based community market garden and plant production site.  This work is important to our vision and the past year has seen the development of a vibrant volunteering aspect to our horticultural work. The volunteer programme attracts a diverse group of people, with mixed abilities, from a range of backgrounds. We are seeking to recruit a fifth project worker whose organising role will be to enhance and consolidate the volunteering opportunities and work at the Hawkwood organic growing site. This will entail organising and supporting volunteers’ involvement in Organiclea’s Hawkwood project (recruitment, programme development and ongoing support and development) and leading teams of volunteers in food production tasks at the Hawkwood site.

Applicants must be able to clearly demonstrate organisational skills, volunteer supervision experience, horticulture experience and a commitment to the empowering role that food growing contributes to community life and resilience.

21 hours/3 days per week at £11.50 an hour, currently Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with occasional week-ends; plus additional unpaid coop responsibilities.

Location: Hawkwood Community Plant Nursery, Chingford, London E4 7UH
