May Open Day

Sunday 26 May at Hawkwood Plant Nursery

It’s another plants special as we head towards the height of the growing season: see our plants list for an idea of what’s going to be available.

10-12.30 Seasonal Blitz morning: our weekend volunteering opportunity, join us at 9.45 for a 10am start. Lunch is provided for those doing the full morning shift. This month we’re planting out salad plants

11-1 Kids Kitchen: children cook up their own seasonal feast .. and eat it together! Places are limited for this and there is a small fee to cover costs – book online here, or find out more first here

12-4 Coffee, cake and delicious locally grown lunch. Plus our farm stall, and plants sale. Buy seedlings which have had a strong headstart in our glasshouse, there’s still time to get them in the ground! And bring your bottles to buy Sail Cargo organic olive oil from farmers in Portugal brought by sailing ship – this is their last sale until they ship new stock in the autumn.

1.30 – 3.30 BeeWild Family drop-in crafting: Create screen prints of the plants loved by bees and butterflies, and help make bunting for the Walthamstow Garden Party. Dress for messy craft activity

2.00 Planting and aftercare: walking workshop and surgery at the plant stall – get advice and learn how to get your sweetcorn, squash and other seedlings planted and established well to ensure a good harvest

3.00 Site tour: Enjoy the site’s growing season highlights
