March Open Day

Sunday 31 March at Hawkwood Plant Nursery

As we just pass the Spring Equinox this open day will be a chance to celebrate the lengthening of the days and the impact this has on plants, wildlife, us! We’ll be marking the return of the bees with a very special illustration workshop:  your chance to design a bee icon to feature on a new BeeWild pollinator trail we are developing for the site. And it’s Mothers Day – so why not come and share some delicious vegan cake with family and friends?

 

10-12.30 Seasonal Blitz morning: our weekend volunteering opportunity, join us at 9.45 for a 10am start. Lunch is provided for those doing the full morning shift. This month we’re sowing seeds.

11-1 Kids Kitchen: children cook up their own seasonal feast .. and eat it together! Places are limited for this and there is a small fee to cover costs – book online here, or find out more first here.

12-4 Coffee, cake and delicious locally grown lunch. Plus our farm stall, fruit plants sale, and a native tree giveaway.

1-3 BeeWild illustration workshop for all ages: join award-winning illustrator and educator Merlin Strangeway, for a fun hands on illustration workshop on brilliant bees.  Draw bees  with materials foraged from Hawkwood, and turn the drawing into a design. One lucky design will be selected for permanent display as a stenciled artwork, on the site’s pollinators trail be launched later in the spring. No drawing experience necessary! Suitable for ages 4+.

2 – 3.30 BeeWild Family drop-in crafting: Create screen prints of the plants loved by bees and butterflies. Dress for the outdoors and for messy craft activity.

3 Site tour: learn about the site’s design and growing stories.

 

Directions to our Hawkwood site including bus, rail and river-cycle routes and the way through the woods are here. Parking is available at the site but space is limited so please come by other means if possible.
