A workers' cooperative growing food on London's edge in the Lea Valley

‘Into the Woods’ Open Day

At the August open day we’re celebrating the woodland biodiversity at our Hawkwood site. Come and find out more about our Bee Wild pollinator habitats project, and our fundraiser for a new woodland classroom, and help celebrate with PlayfulLea who have now been running the forest school at Hawkwood for three years.
We’re also thinking ahead to winter, with a workshop on winter growing, and the opportunity to sow-your-own winter salad plants. And there’s a Dr Bike workshop, and our usual offerings of seasonal blitz, Kids Kitchen and great lunch, coffee and cake.

10-1 Seasonal Blitz morning: our weekend volunteering opportunity, join us at 9.45 for a 10am start.

11-1 Kids Kitchen: children cook up their own seasonal feast .. and eat it together! Places are limited for this and there is a small fee to cover costs – book online here, select bookings, then Organiclea.

12-4 Coffee, cake and delicious locally grown lunch, bar serving Hawkwood-made wine, farm stall with Hawkwood produce, jams, pickles, vinegars and herbal teas for sale.

12-4 Sow-your-own Winter Salad: choose from our wide selection of winter salad seeds to get some salad seedlings going at home ready for a green winter.

1.30 Winter Food Growing Workshop: get tips on planting and aftercare for your winter seedlings so you can look forward to a vitamin and mineral-packed winter harvest.

3 Into the Woods site tour: find out about our plans for a new woodland classroom, and new volunteering and training opportunities linked to improving habitats for pollinator species.

12-3.30 Dr Bike: free bike maintenance checks and advice. Mechanics to fix problems with your bike or advise you on what needs fixing so you can take it to a bike shop with confidence.

12-3 PlayfulLea Forest School: a free drop-in session offering outdoor play and learning for children and families. Come and talk to us about forest school, why it’s great for children and how you can sign up for weekly sessions. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Please email hello[at]playfullea.org.uk with the name and age of your children if you plan to attend, so we have an idea of numbers.

Directions to our Hawkwood site including bus, rail and river-cycle routes are here. Parking is available at the site but space is limited so please come by other means if possible.
