A workers' cooperative growing food on London's edge in the Lea Valley

New Book!

Seedlings From The Smoke

A new Organiclea book: “a gardener’s diary like no other”

We come together for the fun of working with nature, and the serious matter of making a contribution to a better food system, a better world.

In 2009 Organiclea took on Hawkwood Nursery, glasshouses set in a 12 acre site on the edge of Epping Forest.

Since then our grower Ru Litherland has recorded our experiences in a ‘grower’s blog’ which reflects on the seasons’ turning and the joys and challenges of growing. He combines the personal and political in writings that are poetic, informative, funny and thought-provoking, providing a month-by-month chronicle of the life and times of a commnity food project.

We have now published Seedlings From The Smoke – collecting together these ‘musings of an urban market gardener’ as a book with photographs and hand-painted illustrations by Marlene Barrett.

Available from:

Hawkwood Nursery Farm Stall – Wednesdays (3.30-6) and Thursdays (9-5) and on the last Sunday of the month open day (12-4).
