A workers' cooperative growing food on London's edge in the Lea Valley

Education & Skills Funding Agency

Organiclea offers a wide range of ways for people of all abilities to develop their skills – learning horticultural and other land-based skills, gaining work experience and progression into work. This training is delivered both at our Hawkwood growing site, and also in garden sites around Waltham Forest and the surrounding boroughs.

For courses, OrganicLea currently receives funding via the London Learning Consortium (LLC) for places on the Level 1 and Level 2 City and Guilds horticulture training we provide. This enables us to offer places to residents in London who are unemployed or economically inactive. The aim of the programme is to provide qualifications to support people into work. The Mayor of London is responsible for the Adult Education Budget (AEB) in London and the funding provided for these course places. This funding is being used to ‘match fund’ a European Social Fund (ESF) programme for residents in Greater London. Over the next two years (autumn 2021 to summer 2023) OrganicLea has funding for 136 learners to participate in this programme.
