Volunteering at Hawkwood Nursery

We hold open work days once a month on the last Sunday of the month 12pm – 4pm.

If you are able to make a regular commitment we welcome volunteers on Tuesdays and Fridays 11-4pm. We also have a volunteer session on Thursdays from 1.30 -4.30pm.

Our volunteer start dates take place on the 1st Tuesday and 3rd Friday of the month. The next dates are: Tuesday 6 December 2011,  Tuesday 10 January 2012, Friday 20 January 2012, Tuesday 7 February 2012, Friday 17 February 2012, Tuesday 6 March 2012 and Friday 16 March 2012.

Please email sophie@organiclea.org.uk if you would like to start volunteering.

Fridays are fruit days – come along if you are interested in developing your fruit growing skills. See what’s on for details of open day activities and special events.

There is always a range of activities needing doing, both in the glass house and outside, some more energetic (lifting, shovelling) than others (seed sowing, harvesting). We value the contribution made by volunteers, and can offer a great opportunity to learn about organic growing in a friendly supportive environment. Volunteers are eligible to join the coop once they satisfy the membership criteria.

The site has indoor space but please dress for the outdoors. Please bring a packed lunch or food to share.

Current volunteer roles at Hawkwood Nursery include:

Horticultural Assistant

Creating raised beds; clearing bramble; creating outdoor growing areas; removing gravel; sieving and mixing compost; moving compost, soil, and woodchip; sowing seeds; planting seedlings and trees; weeding; harvesting crops, and other seasonal horticultural tasks
