A workers' cooperative growing food on London's edge in the Lea Valley

May Open Day

Sunday 29 May is another of our regular monthly open Sundays at the
Hawkwood growing site, 12-4pm.
What’s growing on? This month’s harvest celebration is ‘spring (wet) garlic’. Harvested in the morning and for sale throughout the day: ‘bursting with spring time flavour.. a lovely peppery, garlic taste.’
*12 o’clock –guided tour of this 12 acre food growing site.
*2-3pm – Free training session – plant-care in the vegetable garden: This will highlight key planting out considerations and look at structures and supports in the vegetable garden. This session will be led by Sean, one of the Hawkwood growers.
*Hawkwood-raised vegetable and herb plants will be for sale, to give burgeoning veg patches a growth spurt! We have tomato plants (loads of these with a wide-range of varieties – including a bargain basement – 50p a plant), squash, cucumbers, chilli peppers and more. Also fruit crafted from our own stock – strawberries, blackcurrants, vines and worcesterberries.
*Throughout the day the usual gang-gardens task, open for all to lend hands and get involved.
Lunch from 1.30-2pm – bring a packed lunch if staying for the day. Drop by at any point, or come and stay for the day!
